Specialty Neurological Programs
Research has shown that properly designed Physical and Occupational Therapy Programs can slow the progression of Neurological Disorders. With the understanding that the Medicare regulations have never supported the imposition of an "Improvement Standard", Family Life Care has developed Medicare based long term PT/OT programs for progressive neurological disorders. The combination of the Medicare PT/OT program with our Care Management Services and our long term private duty aide and homemaker programs, Family Life Care provides complete solutions to care for the neurological patient while slowing the progression of their disorder.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It's a progressive neurodegenerative disease that slowly destroys memory, thinking, social, and behavioral skills and eventually, the ability to carry out simple tasks. Our dementia therapy programs include a cognitive element designed to slow not only the physical progression, but also the cognitive progression of the disorder.
Amoytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the leading degenerative disease of the adult motor system causing damage to the motor neurons as they travel from the brain to the spinal cord and then to the muscles of the body. Homecare Therapy's aim in the home is to enable the patient to maintain as much independence and function as possible as the disease progresses to improve the patient's quality of life. Therapists will help guide the patient to perform activities important to them by a thorough understanding of the patient, their living environment, and caregiver assistance through a custom designed therapy program specific to the patient.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. Multiple sclerosis can cause numbness, weakness, difficulty walking, vision changes and other symptoms. Therapists will guide the patient to perform activities important to them through a thorough understanding of the patient, their living environment, and caregiver assistance. Homecare Therapy will then establish a specific exercise program which will include functional mobility training in their home.
Parkinsons Disease is a chronic and progressive illness. Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time. The nervous system is a network of nerve cells that controls many parts of the body, including movement. A customized home Maintenance Therapy Program mitigates rapid deterioration of the patient's musculoskeletal system by preserving movements needed for IADLs and AD Ls. Particular attention is paid to the patient's gait and is weighted heavily in the therapy program.
